TIMI (10', Romania, 2009)

In only one 10 minute long take, TIMI is an incisive study of human nature. A 10 years old boy with behavioral disorder, placed in foster care, goes for the first time to the seaside. While the boy sleeps in the background, his tutors, Olga and Nicu, plan their first day of holiday, without including Timi in their plans. The lack of editing cuts and the fixed camera, the filmmaker's choice not to "interfere", make the film's emotional "cut" even sharper, questioning the very meaning of "behavioral disorder".

"I wanted to explore the inner world of a child placed in foster care: what remains continuous and what remains fragmentary, discontinuous, in the attempt to change your family." (CRISTI IFTIME)

"Even though the spectator is shown only ten minutes from the life of Nicu and Olga (the tutors of Timi), CRISTI IFTIME manages to portray strong and well defined characters through a powerful conflict. Filmed in one long take, TIMI uses a method of narratology, similar to the "observational" approach in documentary, when events are portrayed at the same rate that the audience experiences them. Everything happens in real "fictional" time. Once in a while, the characters in the film don`t fit the frame perfectly, because of the use of the fixed shot, which gives them a life of their own, independent, outside the cinematic moment, enhancing the sense of veracity. The lack of editing cuts and the fixed camera, the filmmaker's choice not to "interfere", make the film's emotional "cut" even sharper." (Andrei Luca, BIEFF 2012)
