ROAD (5', Romania, 2011)

Whether we’re talking about industrial roads, major highways or about rocks and grains of sand, the road is the metaphor of life and of decisions. This short is a poetical inquiry on these themes and it is based on the American writer and painter Jack Kerouac’s words: “What’s your road, man? – holyboy road, madman road, rainbow road, gruppy road, any road. It’s an anywhere road for anybody anyhow.”

TANCZOS ANDRAS (b. 1990, Miercurea Ciuc) is currently working in Cluj-Napoca, where he does movies, photography and installations. In a constant research of new ways of “reading the town”, he attracts the viewer’s attention through poetical compositions and mundane details reminiscing at once familiarity and alienation. In his works, architecture or vital elements such as water, light and space are examined with subtlety and a certain sensibility for the absurd, seeing that “the private space” is a holistic one, in which anyone can do anything at any given moment. Selective filmography: Experiments in the Revival of Organism (2012), Memoryscapes (2012), Adonai (2012), En Plein Air (2012), Aether (2011), Outworld Bound (2010), Walk (2010).

"ROAD – having as subject the everyday as an object determined by time – is an exploration of the dynamics of the urban scenery, expressed through spatio-temporal alterations and oppositions between the micro and macrounivers. Representation more closely to an illusion than to a factual reality, the film offers possibilities of interpretations as varied as our own subjectivities are." (Tánczos András)
