"THE FISHERMAN is a story about love and yearning. We wanted the audience to identify with a feeling that everyone has had “the wish of living a memory one more time.” The absence of dialogue makes this short film a universal piece accessible to audiences of all ages and cultures. Using the Mexican tradition of Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) as a background, this story reflects the feelings of loneliness and longing that come with losing a loved one. The Fisherman is a magical story with a very human message." (SAMANTHA PINEDA SIERRA)

"What's really interesting in SAMANTHA PINEDA SIERRA's short film is the way she visualize the changes. A day of sorrow and grief is magically transformed, in way that only the South Americans seems to be able to achieve, in a moment of dance and love. In the same way, a fisherman's hut becomes a cozy home and under the full moon the water of the oceans are imbued with magic. Only the over-use of music and the way actors try to compensate the lack of dialogue through over-acting throws a shadow over this delicate depiction of love." (Andrei Dobrescu, BIEFF 2012)
