ADDICTED (23', Germany, 2011)

"ADDICTED, winner of the Golden Leopard for Short Film at Locarno 2011, is an emotional road-movie which comes with a bold stylistic proposal - it is shot exclusively from the POV of the main character, who remains unseen for the audience. A man departs in a search for the woman he loves, who abandoned him without a single word. A perilous journey begins from the Germany's highways to the dodgy Moroccan roads. A captivating tale about obsession. The radical film shooting choice, the fact that we only perceive the cinematographic experience through the eyes of the protagonist, creates a profound affective bond between the spectator and the character. They become travel mates and soul mates in this both geographical and emotional journey." (Adina Pintilie, BIEFF 2012)

"With this film I try to sensualize an inner trip to hell by using real incidents which happened on a journey to Morocco. Passing landscapes, the dialogue with a stranger as well as the out-of-the-blue appearance of aggressive drivers were arranged to reflect on the traveler's mood. Following the tunnel vision of a protagonist trapped in obsession, I apply strongest confinement in visual form. This also allows me to give special emphasis to the sound track. My approach aims at taking the audience along on a trip while letting them look out of the window as they like." (PETER BARANOWSKI)

"ADDICTED is remarkable in the way it succeeds to hold on to the initial film structure and also to be a very emotional film. BARANOWSKI proposes a POV of a driver embarked in a perilous journey, a fixed shot, always through the front screen of the car. This may seem easy enough, but when a couple of youngsters attempt to cut his way and force him off the road, his game becomes a dangerous one. Still, the camera doesn't move. The experiment is now even more interesting because he must find alternative ways to tell his story. One of them is the sound of the cell phone, which actually marks a classic three acts structure. Through editing, he carefully places his ellipses and prepares the suspenseful moments. In the end, he succeeds in telling a story which takes places on two continents, during several days, a story with suspense and adventure, with only one camera immobilized in a fixed shot." (Andrei Dobrescu, BIEFF 2012)
